South-Kazakhstan State Pedagogical University is a unique university located in the southern region of the country, which prepares highly qualified specialists-teachers at all levels of higher education - bachelor's, master's and doctoral. The university was opened on March 19, 1937 in Shymkent by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh SSR as the Teachers' Institute. In 2011 it was reorganized into the South-Kazakhstan State Pedagogical Institute by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan from June 28, 2011 №722. On November 17, 2017 by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan №753 South-Kazakhstan State Pedagogical Institute was granted the status of a university. Today, 6 faculties of the University (Faculty of History and Pedagogy, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Arts and Education, Faculty of Physical Culture and Sport) train specialists in 34 educational programs in the field of humanities and natural sciences, philology, sports and art. Furthermore, the University actively develops international cooperation with leading universities in Europe and Central Asia, provides academic mobility of professors, academic staff and students. Majority of the University staff are highly qualified professors, holders of international scholarships and the heads of major international projects. According to the results of the IAAR rating - "National Rating of demand for universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 2021" of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating of the 2020-2021 academic year, South Kazakhstan State Pedagogical University took the 9th place in the general rating of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan "TOP-20" – 2021. According to the institutional rating of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the university took the 3rd place in the educational programs of the bachelor's degree (2021). The doctoral program of SKSPU took the 8th place in the institutional rating of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan for educational programs (2021). The mission of the University is to improve the quality of human capital based on best practices in education. The strategic goal is to become a hub of education and science in a new format.
