Konaev

Konaev (until May 2022 - Kapshagai) is a city in Kazakhstan, since June 8, 2022, the administrative center of the Almaty region within its new borders (after the separation of the newly formed Zhetysu region from this region). The city is located in the south of the country, on the banks of the Ili River. The city has beaches on the banks of the reservoir and the largest gambling zone in the republic. The population of the city is 54,907 people.

It is located on the banks of the Kapchagai reservoir, on the Ili River near its intersection with the railway, 56 km north of Almaty.

The city is home to the Kapchagai hydroelectric power station, industrial enterprises: Kapchagai Porcelain, Mostostroy-Kapchagai, Rybprom LLP, ACRYLATE LLP, Polimermetall-T LLP, Zhersu Metal LLP, Knauf Gips LLP, LLP "Ayan" including several joint ventures.
