Semey

Semey - is a city of regional importance in Kazakhstan, located in the East Kazakhstan region, on both banks of the Irtysh River. Today it is the largest city in Kazakhstan, which is not the center of the region or a city of republican significance. The left bank of the city is called Zhana Semey. The climate is sharply continental. The population of the city is 350,967 people.

Semipalatinsk is a former fortress built in 1718. The city of Semipalatinsk occupies a special place. It is tragically famous for its closed nuclear test site in 1991.

The largest industrial enterprises of the city are: a cement plant, a meat processing plant, a tannery, a building materials plant, a machine-building, hardware and tank plants, and a coal mining company.

Semipalatinsk is one of the oldest cities in the country, including a suspension bridge across the Irtysh River, the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, the Ekiminaret Cathedral Mosque, an aqua park, the Semipalatinsk Forest State Nature Reserve, etc.
