Ekibastuz

Ekibastuz - a city of regional subordination in the west of Pavlodar region, Kazakhstan. It is located 132 km southwest of the city of Pavlodar. The climate of the region is sharply continental. In Kazakhstan, it occupies the 19th place in terms of population, in Northern Kazakhstan - the 6th place, and in the Pavlodar region - the 2nd place. The population of the city is 129,048 people.

Industry is the priority sector of the economy. Coal mining in the region is actively carried out at three coal mines (one of which is the largest coal mine in the post-Soviet space), two state district power plants. GRES-1 is the largest power plant in Kazakhstan. Ekibastuz GRES-2 (420 meters) is the tallest chimney in the world and is included in the Guinness Book of Records.

The main attractions of Ekibastuz include: a shopping and entertainment center, a cinema, a city cultural center and two parks, many monuments related to the history of the city. Ekibastuz is also famous for its cathedrals and mosques. Favorite places to visit are the three-story complex of the Ivero-Seraphim Orthodox Cathedral, where the largest bell weighs over a ton, and the large Arabic-style mosque in the Great Hall, a 250-kilogram crystal chandelier hangs in the Great Hall.
